A little story about a big lie.
Based on a true story.
As a child, Edward Fudge loses a rebellious friend in a car accident. Was his friend burning in hell? His church would tell him so.
Years later, Fudge, a Bible-belt preacher in 1970s Alabama, is hired to research the topic of hell. His findings, and his struggle to come to terms with the truth of the Bible as compared to the traditions of his church, cause him to face prejudice and injustice. The fiery debate ignited by what he presented continues to this day.
This is a warm and inspiring story of one man’s persistent search for truth. The wit, humor and humility of Edward Fudge shines through in the performance of veteran actor, Mackenzie Astin. An excellent supporting cast help make this film an entertaining and memorable drama for the whole family. A great film to share with someone who is searching for truth on the topic of hell and the immortality of the soul, without overloading them on other subjects.
The single-minded focus of Edward Fudge, which shines through in this film, was the love of God for everyone, and His desire to save as many as possible into His heavenly kingdom. As Mr. Fudge came to realize, the teaching of eternal hell does not fit with a loving God, nor with the Word of God. When it comes to the bottom line, does the Bible teach that there is an immortal soul — or not?
